European Society for Engineering Education (SEFI)
SEFI strongly supports the idea of the creation of a European Higher Education Area. SEFI shares the opinion of the European Ministers with regard to the need of readable and comparable degrees, the use of ECTS, the importance of increased mobility, the development of the European dimension in education and the importance of European cooperation in quality assurance and accreditation. As for the adoption of an education system based on two main cycles, SEFI underlines the particular conditions of the European Engineering Education. SEFI feels that the existing European system for Engineering (with integrated 5- year curricula) should be maintained, possibly in parallel with a two tier Bachelor/Master system. The development of new 1-2 year Master’s programmes in Engineering is encouraged.
